Frances Perkins

Frances Perkins
Frances Perkins was the first woman in U.S. history appointed to a cabinet position by a U.S. President. Perkins served Presidents Roosevelt & Truman for 12 years. Social Security, the Minimum Wage, Workplace Safety; it was Frances Perkins who is largely credited with writing the legislation, providing the advocacy, and helping to make all these protections possible for American workers.

So You Thought This Was About Jogging?

This blog is about economic security; people who feel like they're "running in place." The mainstream media is fairly consistent in covering the struggles of working families, especially children, but even that coverage is mostly anecdotal, and fails to examine the policies and practices which contribute to these conditions.

Pension Security for older workers is woefully underreported. This issue needs more attention. Public Employee Pension Security is currently under attack, and the outcome will affect millions of American households.

We will report on developments affecting American workers and their families, especially Public Pension Security, and encourage discussions that lead to action. We need to be part of the policy discussions that occur at a far remove from our every day lives, and to actively participate in resolving these disparities.
